In France, the fashion industry, recognized internationally, is doing well. Stylists, pattern makers, graphic designers… If joining this industry is your dream, various professions are possible, accessible from CAP to bac+5. It all depends on whether you want to focus on the design side or rather the production side.
Different degrees in the fashion sector depending on the level of studies
All baccalaureates can theoretically lead to fashion, but it is better to have an artistic streak. You can take a CAP in fashion professions (in two years after the 3rd year) or a brevet des métiers d’art (after the baccalaureate or a CAP), focused on know-how. On the professional baccalaureate side, there is for example that of leather professions or fashion-loose clothing professions.
At the Bac+2 level, we can mention the BTS fashion professions in footwear and leather goods, leather professions, or the BTS textile innovation for the technical side. In three years, we find the DNMADE (national diploma in arts and design professions) with a fashion specialization. Around ten establishments offer it, including the Choiseul high school in Tours or the Duperré School of Applied Arts . This specialization will train you in clothing creation (styling) or fashion design . There is also the DNMADE with a materials specialization which allows you to specialize in textile creation, for example at the La Martinière Diderot School of Applied Arts in Lyon. Higher diplomas in applied arts are then open to you.
Another possibility: a university degree, mainly provided at the fashion university attached to Lyon 2 .

Public or private schools specializing in fashion
A diploma from a school specializing in fashion can be interesting for employability. There are about fifty private ones and it is better to check their recognition by the profession. You should also make sure that the diplomas awarded are registered in the RNCP (National Directory of Professional Certifications) . Look at the number of internships during the course (the Chardon-Savard workshop , for example, requires a minimum of six months of internship in the 3rd and 4th years), and the school’s professional partners.
Among the most renowned schools, the French Fashion Institute , cited first by recruiters , which provides training in four or five years for all professions in the sector. The oldest, Esmod ( Paris, Bordeaux, Lyon, Rennes, Roubaix), but also Ensci ( National School of Industrial Creation), or Ensad ( National School of Decorative Arts), in Paris, allow you to specialize in various fields such as clothing design and textile design.
