What jobs in fashion?
France is recognized worldwide for its expertise in fashion. Capital of haute couture, Paris and the many designers and houses it houses are the dream of many students who are destined for careers in fashion. Whether they aspire to work on the design aspect of products, as well as on logistics, marketing/advertising, sales… French graduates can also work internationally and for brands with different values and ambitions: ready-to-wear, eco-design, variety of sizes, etc.
Fashion is not limited to big designers like Jean Paul Gaultier or Marc Jacobs… The sector mobilizes a wide range of professions. Positions as model maker, stylist, collection manager, graphic designer, but also buyers, product managers and sales representatives are sought after each year. Companies also recruit research and development directors and textile engineers to imagine and invent innovative and intelligent materials.
To train for these professions, there are good quality schools: public, but especially private. Be aware that the trend is towards longer studies, increasingly geared towards internationalization.
What baccalaureate do you need to work in fashion?
The baccalaureate will depend on the further studies envisaged. Thus, to move towards a BTS in Fashion Professions, the technological baccalaureates STD2A and STI2D specializing in innovation and eco-design are welcome, as is the professional baccalaureate in Fashion Professions.
For further studies in marketing, international sales, advertising, a general baccalaureate is appreciated. And who says fashion, says opportunities abroad or with foreign clients: mastering one or two foreign languages is essential.
Please note: for a creative career in fashion, a CAP (Fashion Trades, Embroidery Arts, Lace Arts, Needlework Option, Shoes, etc.) can be your entry ticket into a creative workshop.
